Fresh graduates in Singapore are facing a more challenging job market, with a decline in the number securing full-time employment within six months of graduation. Many cite difficulties such as intense competition, higher experience requirements for even entry-level roles, and concerns about salaries not keeping up with the rising cost of living.
In response, the government, educational institutions, and career agencies are stepping up support through expanded career fairs, job coaching, and targeted upskilling programmes. Tools like the Skills Passport and SkillsFuture are being promoted to help graduates identify skill gaps and improve their job readiness.
Authorities are also considering reviving the SGUnited Traineeships programme to provide short-term work opportunities and ease the transition into full-time roles.
The job market remains steady, but the government is closely monitoring the situation and exploring further measures to support fresh graduates during this period of economic uncertainty.
